# Join two or more videos into one

## What a Composition is

A **Composition** is an ordered list of videos that TotalCtrl renders into a single video. The classic use is putting a short branded splash in front of a product demo, but any number of clips can be joined — intro, demo, outro.

Joining is a straight video render. It does *not* use AI credits, and nothing is sent to an AI service.

## Make one

- Go to **Video Hub › Compositions** and choose **New Composition**.

- Give it a name, then pick the **resolution** and **frame rate** for the finished video. Every clip is scaled to fit that size, so clips of different shapes come out consistent rather than stretched.

- On the next screen, add videos from Digital Assets one at a time.

- Put them in the right order with the arrows. **The first clip in the list plays first.**

- Choose **Join videos**.

The render happens in the background. You can leave the page — it keeps going, and the page updates itself when the video is ready.

## Start from Digital Assets instead

If you are already looking at your videos, you do not need to start in Video Hub. In **Digital Assets**, turn on selection mode, tick two or more videos, and choose **Combine** in the bar at the bottom of the screen. The Composition opens with those clips already added, in the order you ticked them.

The Combine button only appears once your selection is two or more *videos* — a single clip, or a mix of videos and documents, is not something that can be joined.

## Trimming a clip

Each clip in the list has a **trim** start and end, in milliseconds. Use them to take just part of a clip — for example, the first 3 seconds of a longer sting — without editing the original file. Leave them empty to use the whole clip.

The trim belongs to that clip *in this Composition*. The same video can be trimmed differently somewhere else, and the file in Digital Assets is never changed.

## Where the finished video goes

The joined video is saved to **Digital Assets** as a new video, alongside everything else. The original clips are untouched.

From the Composition you can then **Open in Digital Assets**, or choose **Caption this video** to start a Video Hub project for it with the video already selected.

## Your Composition is kept

The clip list stays after the render. So when your intro is rebranded, you can swap that one clip and re-render, rather than rebuilding the whole video from scratch.

Changing the clips marks the Composition as a draft again. The video you already rendered stays in Digital Assets — it may already be published or in use somewhere — so re-rendering creates a new one rather than replacing it.

Deleting a Composition deletes the recipe, not the video. Anything it has already produced stays in Digital Assets.
