# Clips without sound, and other things to expect

## Clips with no sound

Splash screens and title cards often have no audio track at all. That is fine — they can be joined like any other clip. TotalCtrl adds silence for the length of that clip so the finished video keeps a single, continuous audio track.

You may see a small **no audio** label next to a clip after the first render. That is TotalCtrl remembering what it found, so later renders of the same Composition are quicker. Nothing is wrong.

## Clips of different sizes or frame rates

Clips do not have to match. Everything is converted to the resolution and frame rate you chose when you created the Composition.

A clip that is a different shape from the output — a square or 4:3 clip in a widescreen video — is fitted inside the frame with black bars at the sides, rather than being stretched.

## There are no transitions between clips

Clips are joined with a straight cut. There is no crossfade or dissolve between them. If you need a fade, build it into the clip itself before uploading.

## How long it takes

Rendering is roughly proportional to the length of the finished video, and usually takes a few minutes. It runs on our servers, not in your browser, so closing the tab does not stop it. Come back to the Composition later and it will be ready.

## If a render fails

The Composition shows the reason. The most common causes are a clip that has been deleted from Digital Assets since you added it, and a file that is not really a video. Fix the clip list and choose **Join videos** again.

## Monthly limits

Joining is measured in **output minutes** — the length of the finished video — and your plan may include a monthly allowance. Renders still in progress count towards it. If you reach the limit, the Join button is unavailable until the next month or until your plan is changed.

This is separate from your AI Units. Joining does not use them.
