# Choosing a video for a new project

**Category:** [Video Hub](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/subtitles)
**Updated:** 2026-08-19

## Three sources, one of them selected

New Project opens on **Upload**, which is what most people want the first time. The other two tabs are beside it:

- **Upload** — a file from your computer. It goes directly to storage, so large files are fine.
- **Digital Asset** — a video already in your library.
- **URL** — a direct link to a video file (mp4, webm and similar).

### Picking from Digital Assets

Press **Browse Digital Assets** to open the picker. It shows your folders, a search box, and a list of every video in the workspace with its name, size and upload date.

It is a list rather than a grid of thumbnails on purpose: Video Hub does not store a still image for a video, so a grid draws every one of them as the same film icon. The name, size and date are the things that actually tell two recordings apart.
### Arriving from Digital Assets

If you started from a video in Digital Assets and chose *Caption this video*, the project form opens with that video already chosen and the Digital Asset tab in front. There is nothing else to pick.
### The language is required

The primary language is the spoken language of the video. Transcription and any imported caption file go onto that track, so it is asked for rather than guessed — a wrong language produces a track that looks finished and reads as nonsense.
