# Translate topics

## Localize your content

CCMS supports per-topic translation into your project's secondary languages using an industry-standard XLIFF round-trip plus reusable translation memory.
## Start a translation

Open a topic and go to its **Translations**. Choose a **target language** and start the translation. CCMS splits the topic into translatable **segments** and tracks how many are complete. Only one translation per language can exist for a topic at a time.
## Export and import XLIFF

Download the **XLIFF** file for the translation and send it to your translator or translation vendor. When the translated XLIFF comes back, **import** it into the same translation to load the target-language segments.
## Review and approve

Open the **translation review** screen to check the translated segments side by side. When the translation is correct, **approve** it. You can also push approved strings forward as needed.
## Translation memory

Approved translations feed your **Translation Memory**, a reusable store of previously translated segments. This speeds up future translations and keeps terminology consistent across topics. Combined with **Glossary** terms marked do-not-translate, it helps protect brand and product names. Once translations are approved, include them when you [build and publish](build-and-publish) localized output.
