# Track time on issues

**Category:** [Time Tracking](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/time-tracking)
**Updated:** 2026-08-19

You can let your team start a timer or log hours directly on issues in the Issue Tracker — handy for engineering teams who live in their issues.
## Turn it on (per project)

- Open an Issue project's *Settings*.
- Enable **Track time on this project** and choose the billing project that hours should roll up to.

## Use it

Open any issue in that project. A time widget appears in the sidebar with a **start/stop timer**, a **log hours** field, and the total tracked on the issue. Hours use the linked billing project's rates and budget, so they flow into approvals and invoicing like any other time.
## Note

You must be a Time Tracking member to log time. If the widget shows a hint instead of controls, ask an admin to add you under Members & Rates.
