# Create a project and transcribe

**Category:** [Video Hub](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/subtitles)
**Updated:** 2026-08-19

## From video to captions

- Open **Subtitles → New Project**.
- Choose a video source: a **Digital Asset** video, an **upload**, or a **URL**.
- Leave **Transcribe automatically** ticked and pick a language, then create.

Transcription runs in the background — the track shows *Transcribing…* and flips to *Ready* when done, with the text already split into time-coded cues. You can also add more language tracks later, or add an empty track and type captions by hand.

You can also start from **Digital Assets**: open a video asset and click **Caption this video**.
