# Reuse content with snippets and variables

## Why reuse

Snippets and variables let you write a piece of content once and reuse it everywhere, so updates ripple out automatically instead of requiring edits in dozens of topics.
## Snippets

A **snippet** is a reusable content fragment — for example a safety warning, a support contact block, or a standard prerequisites list. Open the **Snippets** page and choose **New Snippet** to author one. Once saved, you can insert the snippet into any topic from the editor. Editing the snippet later updates it in every topic that references it. CCMS tracks which topics use which snippets, so you can see the impact of a change.
## Variables

A **variable** is a token placeholder written as `{{variable_name}}` that is resolved at publish time. Use them for values that change by context, such as a product name, version number, or company name. Open the **Variables** page and choose **New Variable**, then set a **key** and a **default value**.
## Per-audience value sets

Variables can carry multiple **value sets** (a value map) so the same `{{token}}` resolves differently per audience or product line at publish time. The default value is used when no specific set applies. This means one source topic can serve several products without duplication.

When your reusable content is in place, assemble topics into a deliverable — see [Build and publish a publication](build-and-publish).
