# Document Signing overview

**Category:** [Document Signing](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/document-signing)
**Updated:** 2026-08-19

Document Signing is TotalCtrl's built-in e-signature app, similar to DocuSign. Upload a PDF, drag fields onto the pages, assign them to signers, and send the document for signature by secure email link. Recipients sign in their browser — no account required.
## How it works

- **Upload** a PDF and give it a title.
- **Prepare** it: add recipients and drag signature, initials, date, text, and checkbox fields onto the pages.
- **Send** it. Each signer gets a secure link by email.
- **Track** progress in real time as people view and sign.
- **Download** the completed PDF, which includes a Certificate of Completion and a tamper-evident hash.

## Is it legally binding?

Yes. Click-to-sign with a captured signature and a full audit trail satisfies the requirements of the U.S. ESIGN Act and EU eIDAS for the vast majority of business agreements. Every signing event is recorded with the signer's email, IP address, and timestamp.
