# The answer library

**Category:** [RFP Responses](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/rfp-responses-1)
**Updated:** 2026-10-04

## What it is

Question-and-answer pairs you have given before and kept. It is what makes the second questionnaire faster than the first, and it is where both the drafting runs and the suggestions panel look before anything is generated.
## Three ways to fill it

- **Write an entry** directly.
- **Import a past questionnaire** — an Excel or Word file you have already answered. Same review-before-writing step as importing a live one.
- **Harvest from finished work** — approved answers from responses you have completed, offered for review before they go in.

## Reviewed, not automatic

Nothing arrives in the library on its own. Both the import and the harvest show you what they found and wait for you to agree — a library that fills itself is one nobody trusts, and an answer that was right for one buyer is not automatically right for the next.

Entries are usable as soon as they are added. If one turns out to be wrong, edit it or remove it: it will otherwise keep being suggested, and the most-used answers are offered first.
## Knowledge sources are a different thing

The **answer library** is answers you have given. **Knowledge sources** are documents to draft FROM — a security policy, an architecture overview. Drafting reads both: the library for a question you have answered before, the sources for one you have not.
