# Publish your site

## Publishing model

Both sites and individual pages have a status: **draft** or **published**. A page is only live to the public once both the site and that page are published.
## Publish a page

In the page editor, use the **Publish** action. This saves a snapshot to the page's version history and sets the page status to **published**. You can optionally add a label to the saved version so it is easy to identify later. To take a page offline, use **Unpublish**, which returns it to draft.
## Publish the site

From the site dashboard, click **Publish** to take the whole site live. This records a publish timestamp and makes the site reachable at its public URL. Use the same control to take the site offline (back to draft) at any time.
## Where your site lives

- **Subdomain URL:** your site is served at `/w/<account>/<subdomain>` by default.
- **Custom domain:** once verified, your site is served from your own domain instead. See [Connect a custom domain](connect-a-custom-domain).

## Preview before going live

Use the page **Preview** to see exactly how a page renders, including draft pages, before you publish. Publishing a page also fires a notification and webhook event so connected apps know the page went live.
