# Projects Overview

## What is Projects?

Projects is TotalCtrl's kanban-based project management tool. Each project has a customisable board of columns (lanes) that hold tasks. Tasks move across columns as work progresses, giving your team a clear visual picture of where everything stands.

## Key concepts

  
- **Project:** A container for a body of work. Each project has its own board, team, and settings.
  
- **Column:** A stage in your workflow (e.g. To Do, In Progress, Done). You can rename, reorder, recolour, and add as many columns as you need.
  
- **Task:** A unit of work that lives in a column. Tasks carry a title, description, assignee, priority, due date, labels, subtasks, and comments.
  
- **Board template:** A reusable column structure. Six built-in templates are provided (Software Development, Marketing Campaign, Bug Tracker, Design, Simple, Default) and you can create your own.

## Access modes

Each project has an **access mode** that controls who can see it:

  
- **Private:** Only project members can view and interact with it.
  
- **Invite-only:** Discoverable but requires an invitation to join.
  
- **Public:** Anyone with the link can view the board (and optionally edit, if enabled).

## Views

  
- **Board view:** Drag-and-drop kanban. The default view for most teams.
  
- **Table view:** A spreadsheet-style list with filtering by column, priority, and assignee — useful for reporting or bulk review.

## AI features

  
- **AI project generation:** Describe your project in plain language and TotalCtrl will generate a full board with columns and 10–16 tasks.
  
- **AI status report:** A weekly health report (green / yellow / red) with key metrics, highlights, and recommendations, auto-generated from your board state.
