# Payroll: connect Gusto or record runs manually

TotalCtrl records the accounting impact of payroll — it doesn't run payroll itself.
## Connect Gusto

- Go to *Accounting → Settings → Payroll*.
- Click **Connect with Gusto** (use the demo environment for testing).
- Processed payroll runs import automatically — hourly, or with **Import payroll now**.

## Record a run manually

In *Accounting → Payroll*, enter the pay date, gross wages, net pay and employer taxes. TotalCtrl posts: Dr Wages + Dr Employer Payroll Taxes / Cr Cash (net pay) + Cr Payroll Liabilities (withholdings + employer taxes owed). **ADP** support is coming soon.
