# Organize tasks into lists

**Category:** [Tasks](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/tasks-1)
**Updated:** 2026-08-19

## Why use lists

Lists are your own project buckets — for example *Work*, *Home*, or *Q3 launch*. They appear under **My Lists** in the sidebar, each with a badge showing how many open tasks it holds. The Inbox, Today, and Upcoming views are not lists; they are filters that span everything.
## Create a list

- Click **Add list** at the bottom of the sidebar (or the **Lists** item in the mobile bottom bar).
- Give it a **name**, and optionally pick a **color** and an **icon**.
- Save. The list appears in the sidebar and you can open it to see only its tasks.

## Move tasks between lists

Open a task to see its detail panel and change its list there, or drag tasks to reorder them within a list. New tasks created while a list is open are added to that list automatically.
## Rename, recolor, or delete

From a list view you can rename it, change its color or icon, or delete it. **Deleting a list never deletes your tasks** — any tasks it held are moved back to your Inbox so nothing is lost.
