# Choose a channel and which events to post

## Setting it up

Under **Notification Settings**, type the channel — `#engineering`, with the hash — and tick the events you want. Save.

If the channel is **private**, invite the app to it first (`/invite @TotalCtrl` in that channel). Slack will not let an app post into a private channel it is not a member of, and the failure is silent from TotalCtrl's side.
## The six events

- **Issue Created** — a new issue in a project this configuration covers.
- **Status Changed** — includes the old and new status on a second line.
- **Issue Assigned** — names the new assignee, or says *Assignee: nobody* when somebody is unassigned.
- **Comment Added** — who commented, and the comment as plain text.
- **Sprint Started** and **Sprint Completed** — the sprint name, its dates and its goal.

Tick nothing and you get everything; the list is a filter, not an opt-in.
## What a message looks like

A heading naming the event and the issue key, then the issue title as a link, then whatever is actually set — priority, status, assignee. A field nobody has filled in is left out rather than printed empty, so an issue with no priority does not post a swatch and the word *None*.
## Nothing is arriving

Work down this list:

- Is the connection still showing **Connected**?
- Is the event ticked? An unticked event is silently skipped.
- Is the channel name right, and is the app in it if it is private?
- Is the issue in a project this configuration covers? A configuration can be workspace-wide or limited to one project.

Notifications are sent after the change is saved and never block the action that caused them — so a Slack outage will lose the message, and will never stop somebody from changing a status.
