# Connect Slack to Issue Tracking

## What the integration does

Three things, and they are independent — you can use any one of them without the others.

- **Notifications.** Issue activity is posted into a channel you choose.
- **Slash commands.** Look up, create and assign issues from the Slack message box.
- **Link unfurling.** Paste a link to an issue and Slack expands it into a card.

## Connecting

- Open **Issue Tracking → Integrations → Slack**.
- Click **Connect Slack**. Slack asks which workspace to install into and shows the permissions being requested.
- Approve, and you are returned to TotalCtrl with the connection showing as **Connected**.

## What each permission is for

Every permission on that consent screen has a job. If somebody asks why the app wants it, this is the answer:

- `chat:write` — post the notification, and reply to a slash command.
- `commands` — receive `/issues`.
- `links:read` and `links:write` — see that an issue link was pasted, and replace it with a card.
- `channels:read` — turn the channel name you type (`#engineering`) into the channel Slack posts to.

The app does *not* ask to read your members' email addresses. It once did, and nothing used it.
## This is a different connection from the AI Agent's Slack

Issue Tracking and Agents both integrate Slack, and they are separate integrations with separate credentials. Connecting one does not connect the other, and **disconnecting one does not affect the other** — that used to be a single shared credential, so revoking Slack for an agent silently stopped issue notifications.
## Disconnecting

The same page has **Disconnect Slack**. It removes the stored token; nothing is posted after that. Your notification settings are kept, so reconnecting picks up where you left off.
