# File Transfer overview **Category:** [File Transfer](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/file-transfer) **Updated:** 2026-08-19 ## What File Transfer does File Transfer lets you send large files securely to anyone with a link, and collect files back from clients without giving them an account. Everything is scoped to your workspace, so only members of your account can manage transfers and requests. ## Two core workflows - **Send files** — Upload one or more files, set an expiry and optional protections, then share a secure download link (and optionally email it to recipients). See [Send files securely](send-files-securely). - **Request files** — Create a shareable upload page so clients can send files *to* you. See [Collect files with a file request](collect-files-with-a-file-request). ## How links work Every transfer and request gets a long, unguessable token in its URL. Download links live at `/ft//` and upload pages at `/r//`. Anyone with the link can use it, so treat the link as the credential. You can add a password and an expiry for extra control. ## The dashboard The File Transfer home screen has two tabs: **Sent** (your transfers) and **Requests** (your file requests). From there you can open any item to see its activity, download log, and submitted files. Actions across the app are recorded in your account's audit log. ## Security & limits Files are stored through TotalCtrl's managed storage layer. Per-file and total-transfer size limits apply (configured by your administrator).
