# File Transfer Overview

## What is File Transfer?

File Transfer has two complementary tools:

  
- **Send transfer:** Package files and send them to recipients via a secure download link. Recipients don't need a TotalCtrl account.
  
- **File request:** Create a secure upload link so clients can upload files to you — no account required on their end.

## Security features

  
- **Password protection, Expiry dates (1/3/7/30 days), Download limits, Audit trail**
