# Monthly active users & plan limits

**Category:** [Engage](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/engage)
**Updated:** 2026-10-04

Engage is metered by **monthly active users (MAU)** — the number of unique contacts who received at least one message on any channel in the calendar month. A contact counts once no matter how many messages they receive.

Your plan sets an MAU allowance (shown on your *Billing* page and on the Engage overview). **0 means unlimited.** When you reach the cap, Engage stops messaging *new* contacts for the rest of the month — contacts already active that month keep receiving messages. The count resets at the start of each calendar month.
