# Working in the grid

**Category:** [Data Tables](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/data-tables)
**Updated:** 2026-10-04

## Nothing reloads

Searching, sorting, filtering and scrolling all fetch just the rows — the page does not navigate, so your position, column widths and filters stay put.
## Finding things

- **Search** looks across every text-ish column at once.
- **Filter** is per column, in the row beneath the headers. Select and checkbox columns give you a dropdown.
- **Sort** by clicking a column heading; click again to reverse it. Numbers sort as numbers and dates in date order.

Blank cells always sort to the end, whichever direction you choose — an empty cell is not the smallest value, it is a missing one.
## Editing

Double-click a cell, or select it and press **Enter**. Arrow keys move between cells, **Escape** abandons an edit. The value appears immediately and saves behind you.

What you see after saving is what was *stored*: type `1,200` into a number column and the cell settles as 1200. If a value does not fit the column it is refused, the old value comes back, and you are told why — nothing is quietly blanked.
## If somebody else edited the same row

You will be asked to reload rather than have one of the two edits silently discarded.
