# Getting started with Data Tables

**Category:** [Data Tables](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/data-tables)
**Updated:** 2026-10-04

## What it is for

A Data Table is somewhere to put a spreadsheet. It is the home for the data that has no app of its own — vendors, equipment, venues, rate cards, office locations, a risk register — the lists that otherwise live in a file attached to an email.
## Three steps

- Open **Data Tables** and choose **New table**.
- Choose **Import** and drop in a CSV or Excel file. The columns and their types are worked out for you and shown for review before anything is written.
- Search, sort, filter and edit in the grid.

## Who can use it

Data Tables is internal to your workspace. Anybody with the app can read and edit rows; creating, importing into, and deleting tables is for workspace admins. There is no guest access — a data table is shared reference data with no per-row permissions.
## How big can a table be?

Tens of thousands of rows, not millions. Your plan sets three separate limits: how many tables, how many rows in one table, and how many rows across the whole workspace. The table list shows where you stand against them.
