# Exporting a table

**Updated:** 2026-10-04

## Where the Export button is

**Export** sits at the top of a table, beside Import and Add column. It opens the same dialog used everywhere else in TotalCtrl, so an export from a data table offers the same destinations as one from Support, the CRM or Bug Bounty.
## Where a table can go

- **Download as Excel (.xlsx)** — numbers arrive as numbers, so you can total them.
- **Download as CSV** — for feeding to a script. It opens cleanly in Excel too, accented characters included.
- **Export to Data Tables** — makes a COPY of this table as a new data table. Useful before a bulk change you are not sure about: work on the copy, or keep it as a snapshot of how things looked today.
- **Save to cloud storage** — uploads the workbook to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or Box. Only the services you have personally connected are listed; if none are, the dialog says so and links to where you connect one.
- **New Google Sheet** — on the small arrow beside the Export button, when your workspace has connected Google Sheets.

## A Google Sheet is not the same as a file in Google Drive

Both appear in your Drive, and they are different things. **Save to Google Drive** uploads the .xlsx workbook — a file you download or convert before you can work in it. **New Google Sheet** creates a real spreadsheet you can open and edit immediately. Pick the second one if somebody is going to work in it.
## How the copy differs from the table

An export is what the grid SAYS, not what the database stores. A yes/no column reads Yes or No rather than true or false, and a multi-select is joined into one cell. That is deliberate: a spreadsheet has no idea what a select column is.
## The export follows what you are looking at

If the grid is filtered or sorted, the export is filtered and sorted the same way. Clear the filters first to export everything.
## Google Sheets always creates a NEW spreadsheet

TotalCtrl asks Google for the narrowest possible permission — access to files this app created, and nothing else in your Drive. That is why an export makes its own sheet and cannot write into one you already had. If the option is not shown, no Google Sheets connection exists yet; it is set up in Orchestration.
## Exports are one-off copies

Nothing stays in sync. Changing the table later does not change a file, sheet or copied table you exported earlier.
