## What are CRM Templates?

A template is a named, ordered set of fields for one record type — **Contacts**, **Companies**, or **Tasks**. The template controls which fields appear on the create and edit forms for that type, in what order, and which are required.
## The default template

Each record type automatically gets a built-in *default* template that includes every standard field. The default cannot be deleted, and it drives the form for that type until you choose another default.
## Creating & editing a template

- Go to **CRM → Settings → Templates**.
- Click **New Template**, give it a name, and pick a type.
- In the editor, **drag** fields to reorder them, toggle **Enabled** to show/hide a field, and toggle **Required**. The record's anchor field (e.g. Company Name, Task Title) is always on.
- Click **Save**.

## Custom fields

Any custom fields you define under **CRM → Settings → Custom Fields** become available in the template editor for their object type — enable them to add them to the form. (The Custom Fields area itself is unchanged.)
## Choosing the default

Open the **Template Mapping** tab to set which template is the default for each type. The form for that type then renders from the chosen default.
