# Create and organize spaces

## Why spaces matter

A **space** is a section inside a wiki, usually mapped to a team or topic. Spaces control who can see content and give each area its own identity with an icon and color.
## Create a space

- Open your wiki home.
- Choose **New space** and enter a **title**.
- Optionally add a **description**, pick an **icon** and **color**, and set whether the space is **public** (visible to everyone in your account) or private.
- Save. You are automatically added as the space **admin**.

## Manage members and visibility

Open a space and go to its **settings** to update the title, description, icon, color, and public/private toggle. Members each have a role; the admin who created the space can edit it and manage who belongs. Only people who can view a space see its pages, and only people who can edit a space can create, change, or delete its pages.
## Organize pages within a space

Inside a space you can switch between a **tree** view (the nested page outline in the sidebar) and a **table** view that lists pages with their last-updated metadata. Drag pages under one another to build a hierarchy.
## Deleting a space

Space editors can delete a space from its settings. This removes the space and its pages, so export or move anything you want to keep first.
