# Create a string set and add languages

**Category:** [String Manager](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/strings)
**Updated:** 2026-08-19

## Create a set

From the String Manager home page, click **New set**. Give it a **name** (required), an optional **description**, and a **primary language** — the source locale your strings are written in. Click create and you land on the set's string browser.
## Add target languages

Open the set, then go to **Settings**. Under the languages picker, select every locale you want to translate into and save. Each language you add becomes a column you can fill in on every string.

- Right-to-left locales (such as Arabic or Hebrew) are detected automatically and flagged as RTL.
- Removing a language deletes its translations from the set, so remove with care.
- The available languages come from your tenant's active language list, shared across TotalCtrl apps.

## Edit set details later

You can rename the set, change its description, or switch the primary language any time from **Settings → Update set**. Deleting a set is a soft delete — it is hidden from the list but its history is retained.
## Next steps

Once your set has languages, you can [add strings and enter translations](manage-strings-and-translations) or [import an existing file](import-and-export-strings).
