# Create a prompt library

**Updated:** 2026-08-19

## Libraries hold your prompts

A library is the container for a set of related prompts plus their shared settings. Most teams create one library per product area or service.
## Create one

- Open **Prompt Manager** and click **New library** on the index page.
- Enter a **Name** (required). A URL **slug** is generated automatically from the name, or you can supply your own.
- Optionally add a **Description** so teammates know what the library is for.
- Click save. You are taken straight to the new library's detail page.

Slugs must be unique within your account. If you choose one that is already taken, you will see a message and can pick another.
## The library detail page

Each library opens with a **Prompts** tab listing every prompt newest-first, and a **Datasets** tab for your test data. From here you can add prompts, open settings, or trigger a GitHub sync.
## Settings and deletion

Click **Settings** to rename the library, edit its description, or configure GitHub sync (see [Connect a library to GitHub](/hc/prompts/connect-a-library-to-github)). Deleting a library is a soft delete: it is marked inactive and hidden from the list, but its history is preserved. Up to ten active libraries appear in the sidebar for quick navigation.
