# Connect a custom domain

**Category:** [Website Builder](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/website-builder)
**Updated:** 2026-08-19

## Set your domain

Open **Site settings** and go to the custom domain section. Enter the domain you want to use (for example `www.mysite.com`) and save. Each domain can only be connected to one site.
## Point your DNS

After saving, we show you a **CNAME target**. In your domain registrar or DNS provider, create a **CNAME record** for your domain that points to that target. SSL certificate provisioning starts automatically once the domain is added.
## Verify the domain

Back in Site settings, click **Verify DNS**. We check that your DNS record resolves correctly. When verification succeeds, the domain is marked verified and your site immediately serves from your custom domain. If verification fails, the page shows the specific DNS error so you can correct the record and try again.
## Changing or removing the domain

- Entering a different domain resets verification to **pending**; re-run Verify DNS after updating your CNAME.
- Clearing the domain field removes the custom domain. Your site then falls back to its subdomain URL.

## Subdomain alternative

If you do not have a custom domain, you can change your free **subdomain** in the same settings page. It must be unique within your account. See [Publish your site](publish-your-site) for how URLs are formed.
