## Enable SMS for your platform (administrators)

SMS-based 2FA is off until a Super Admin connects an SMS provider. TotalCtrl supports **Twilio** and **Telnyx**.
### Steps

- Go to **Super Admin → SMS (2FA)**.
- Enter credentials for your provider:
**Twilio:** Account SID, Auth Token, and a sending phone number.
- **Telnyx:** an API Key and a sending phone number. The API key is stored encrypted.

- Choose the **active provider** (Twilio, Telnyx, or Disabled).
- Click **Save settings**, then use **Send a test message** to confirm delivery.

### Carrier requirements

In the United States, application-to-person SMS from a standard phone number requires **10DLC registration** (a registered brand and campaign) with your provider, and the sending number must be attached to a messaging profile. Until that is approved, carriers may accept but not deliver messages. For most teams, an **authenticator app** or **passkeys** are simpler and avoid this requirement entirely.
