# Community overview

## What the Community app does

Community lets you launch a branded discussion hub where members post, comment, and react around your brand or product. You manage everything from an admin area, and your members visit a separate public-facing portal to read and contribute.
## The two sides

- **Admin area** — where you set up the community, create spaces, moderate posts, manage members, send invites, and view analytics.
- **Public portal** — where members sign in, browse spaces, write posts, leave comments, and react. It can run on a default URL or your own [custom domain](connect-a-custom-domain).

## Core building blocks

- **Community** — the top-level container, with a name, tagline, branding, and a `public` or private privacy setting.
- **Spaces** — sections that organize discussion (for example a General space is created automatically). Each space has a type such as discussion, events, resources, chat, or announcements.
- **Posts** — threads inside a space. Types include discussion, question, announcement, poll, and event. Posts can be pinned or hidden.
- **Members** — people who have joined, each with a role (admin, moderator, member) and a status (active, pending, suspended, banned).

## Getting started

The first time you open Community you are prompted to create it. From there, head to [spaces](create-and-organize-spaces), [members](invite-and-manage-members), and [moderation](moderate-posts-and-comments). Community also connects to other TotalCtrl apps — popular threads can be turned into Help Center article drafts with AI.
