# Block or change specific dates

## When to use a date override

Date overrides handle one-off exceptions to your normal weekly availability without you having to edit a recurring schedule. Use them for holidays, vacation days, a half-day, or to open special hours that aren't part of your usual week.
## Add an override

- Go to **Availability** and open **Date overrides**.
- Click **New override** and choose the **date**.
- To block the whole day, mark it **Unavailable** — no slots will be offered that day.
- To change the hours instead, leave it available and set a custom **start** and **end** time for that date only.
- Optionally add a **note** to remind yourself why.

## Good to know

- You can only have **one override per date**. If one already exists for that day, edit it rather than adding a new one.
- An override applies to that single date across all your event types.
- The Date overrides page lists upcoming overrides and a history of recent past ones. Remove an override at any time to fall back to your normal schedule.

For recurring weekly hours, edit a schedule on the [Set your availability](set-your-availability) page instead.
