# Migrating from Jira into Issue Tracking

Move a Jira project into TotalCtrl Issue Tracking, including its issues, statuses and comments. The import creates a **brand-new project** — nothing in Jira is changed or deleted, so you can run it as a trial and re-run it later.
## Run an import

- Go to **Issue Tracking → Integrations → Jira**.
- Click **Import a Jira project** and pick the project.
- Give the new TotalCtrl project a name, and choose whether to bring comments across.
- **Map your statuses.** Each Jira status becomes a column in the new project — tell us which category it belongs to (Backlog, Unstarted, Started, Completed, Cancelled). We pre-fill sensible guesses, so usually you can just review them.
- Click **Start import**.

## While it runs

Imports run in the background — you can leave the page. The progress bar updates automatically and you'll get a notification when it finishes. Large projects take a few minutes.
## What comes across

- Issue summary and description
- Priority (mapped to TotalCtrl priorities)
- Status, using the mapping you chose
- Labels, and a link back to the original Jira issue
- Comments, if you asked for them

## What doesn't come across (yet)

- Attachments and embedded images
- Issue links, epics and sprint history
- Assignees — Jira users aren't matched to TotalCtrl users, so imported issues start unassigned
- Custom fields

Very large projects are capped per import. If you have more issues than the cap, import in batches or get in touch and we'll help.
