# Image thumbnails & previews (renditions)

## Fast-loading image grids

For image assets, the library generates lightweight **WebP renditions** — a small grid thumbnail (~400px) and a larger preview (~1400px) — instead of loading full-resolution originals everywhere. This keeps browsing snappy even with large source files.

Renditions are created on demand the first time they're needed and cached. When you replace an image's file or restore an older version, its renditions are cleared and regenerated automatically, so you never see a stale thumbnail. Originals are always preserved and are what downloads deliver.
