# Grid or list, per view

## Two ways to look at a shelf

Every asset list has a grid and a list view, switched with the two buttons beside the filters.

- **Grid** shows a thumbnail per asset. Best for images, where the picture is how you recognize the file.
- **List** shows name, type, size, permission and upload date in a row. Best for anything without a preview image.

### The videos view opens as a list

Digital Assets does not store a still frame for a video, so in the grid every video draws the same film icon — a wall of identical tiles that tells you nothing. **Browse by Type → Video** therefore opens as a list, where the name, size and date do the work. Images keep the grid.
### Your choice is remembered per view

Switching views is remembered for the view you are in, not for the whole app. Preferring the grid while looking at videos does not change how images open, and vice versa. Simply looking at a view does not record a preference — only pressing one of the two buttons does.
