# Add tasks quickly with quick-add

**Category:** [Tasks](https://help.totalctrl.app/hc/totalctrl/totalctrl-help-center/en-US/categories/tasks-1)
**Updated:** 2026-08-19

## The quick-add bar

The fastest way to capture a task is the **quick-add bar** at the top of any view (on mobile, tap the floating **+** button). Type a single line and Tasks parses out the details for you — no need to open a form.
## Natural-language shortcuts

Quick-add understands a few inline tokens. Anything left over becomes the task title:

- **Due dates** — type `today`, `tomorrow`, `next week`, or an exact date like `2026-06-20`.
- **Priority** — type `P1`, `P2`, `P3`, or `P4` (P1 is the most urgent).
- **Tags** — prefix a word with `#`, for example `#shopping`. New tags are created automatically.

## Example

Typing `Buy milk tomorrow P2 #shopping` creates a task titled **Buy milk**, due tomorrow, at priority P2, tagged **shopping**.
## Where new tasks land

A task added from the Inbox goes to your Inbox (no list). If you are viewing one of your lists when you quick-add, the task is created in that list instead. You can always move it later — see [Organize tasks into lists](organize-with-lists). If you leave the date out, the task simply has no due date and will not appear in Today or Upcoming until you give it one.
