# Course Templates and Custom Fields

## Course Templates

A **Course Template** decides which fields appear on the course form, in what order, and which are required. The built-in template is the default; create your own under **Course Templates**, drag fields to reorder, and toggle each field's *Enabled* / *Required*. Pick which template a course uses on that course's **Settings** page.
## Custom Fields

Add custom metadata to courses (e.g. Level, Category, Audience) under **Custom Fields**. Supported types: Text, Number, Date, Yes/No, Dropdown, Multi-select, and URL. Add a field with the **New Field** button, edit it later from the pencil icon, and include it in a Course Template to make it appear on the course form.
