# Enrollment, approvals, progress, and certificates

## How progress works

A learner **enrolls** in a course, then works through lessons and marks each one complete (SCORM/quiz lessons complete automatically). Completion percentage updates as they go; when every lesson is done, the enrollment is marked **completed**.
### Approval queue

If **Require approval to enroll** is on (Academy Settings), new learners enter a **pending** state and can't access lessons until approved. Approve or deny pending requests on the course's **Report** page.
### Certificates

If certificates are enabled in Academy Settings, a completion certificate (with a unique serial) is issued automatically on completion, and learners can download a branded PDF. Customize the certificate heading, brand color, and a signature name/title in Settings.
